Current Volunteer Opportunities

Tutor Trainer: Work with the Director of Training to train incoming tutors.

Workshop Ambassador: Assist with workshop set-up, tear down and welcoming participants.

Community Outreach: Represent Literacy Kansas City at volunteer fairs, speaking engagements and other special events.

Staff Support: Assist with staff support activities, as needed.

Office Support: Perform general receptionist duties for the front desk of the Literacy Kansas City office.

Special Events Volunteer: Assist with special events, including: the Corporate Spelling bee, Student and Volunteer Achievement Awards, Barnes and Noble Book Fair and the Golf Tournament.

Literacy Tutor: Tutor a Literacy Kansas City adult learner in reading and writing.

StartNow Class Instructor: Assist with a small adult literacy class that meets once per week for one hour. Various topics are presented, from phonics to budgeting.

Math Tutor: Assist with a math class meeting at the LiteracyKC office on Mondays and Thursdays, 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. If you would like to propose an additional meeting time, we can open up the schedule.

Student Assessor: Responsible for interviewing, assessing, and determining the appropriateness of potential adult learners who enroll in the program within the scope of the mission and policies of the organization.

Computer Tutor: Assist adult students with computer literacy.

Tutor Associate: Make monthly phone calls to a pre-selected group of tutors.
